The festival

About

A flagship event for psychedelic trance culture in France, the Hadra Trance Festival was born in 2005, initiated by the Grenoble-based Hadra association.

Every year, on the shores of Plan d’Eau de Vieure in the Allier region, the festival welcomes 10,000 people who come together to enjoy four days of celebration. With four vibrant stages and over 150 artists, the festival offers an exceptional musical diversity across 72 uninterrupted hours.

The Hadra Trance Festival is a unique adventure to be fully experienced. Throughout the year, we work tirelessly to create four unforgettable days of celebration, allowing festivalgoers to disconnect from their daily lives.

OUR HISTORY :

Launched in 2005 in Chorges (Hautes-Alpes), the Hadra Trance Festival later moved to Pontcharra for its third edition in 2008, then to the Vercors mountain range from 2010 to 2014.

Since 2016, the festival has been based at Plan d’Eau de Vieure and, for the first time in its history, secured its location until 2025 thanks to the exceptional support of the municipality of Vieure, its residents, and the Bocage Bourbonnais Community of Communes.

LINE-UP & ARTISTIC DIRECTION

Hadra Trance Festival is one of the only French festivals to focus its lineup on the different styles of psytrance (psychedelic trance) and the alternative aesthetics that have developed alongside it.

  • The Main Stage, the festival’s beating heart, impresses with its structure, decoration, and a lineup dedicated to the full spectrum of psytrance: progressive, dark-prog, psygressive, full-on, psy, dark-psytrance, and forest.
  • Paradoxe, the alternative stage, explores a wide range of electronic music styles developed alongside psytrance: techno, drum’n bass, hi-tech, dub, and world music, featuring bands that blend traditional instruments with electronic sounds.

DECORATION & SCENOGRAPHY

Scenography is a fundamental part of trance culture, transforming the festival into an immersive and fantastical universe.

Every year, the Hadra Trance Festival invites decoration teams from all over the world. Decorators, visual artists, videographers, painters… These teams are as highly anticipated as the musicians, contributing to the festival’s unique magic.

Each team brings its specialty: psychedelic canopies, custom scenography, high-definition VJing, interactive installations, digital arts, wooden structures, and more. In total, over 15 professional and volunteer teams work together to transform the 25 hectares of Plan d’Eau de Vieure into an utopian world.

An annual open call for volunteer projects allows participants to decorate specific areas of the festival, offering a chance to express their creativity and passion while enhancing communal spaces in line with the yearly theme.

THE VILLAGE

Throughout the event, festivalgoers can access an alternative space featuring conferences, art exhibitions, workshops, yoga classes, and music awakenings—all free and open to everyone. A place of exchange, encounters, and discovery.

The festival offers a conference space where professionals, amateurs, and curious minds come together to discuss themes related to psychedelic culture and its associated values. This space fosters dialogue and awareness on current social and cultural issues, inviting festivalgoers to take part in debates and become active participants in the festival experience.

A second space is dedicated to workshops, free and open to all, providing a variety of introductory and awareness-building activities on key festival themes. These workshops have become a defining feature of the event, encouraging participants to exchange ideas, invent, and collaborate while experiencing the festival from a new perspective.

ARTS & PERFORMANCES

Throughout the festival, you’ll encounter artists and collectives presenting a wide range of performances and roaming acts—an invitation to discover unique artistic expressions that transport you into a psychedelic microcosm.

Expect luminous fire troupes, traveling circus companies, street and visual artists, and more, bringing their poetic, humorous, or surrealistic universes to life across the festival grounds.

At Le Portail, our art gallery, embark on a journey through the history, influences, and techniques of psychedelic and visionary art. This ever-evolving collection showcases boundless imagination, merging artistic exploration with mystical, spiritual, and psychedelic symbolism.

OUR VALUES

Every year, the Hadra Trance Festival strives to create an inclusive space where everyone is free to be themselves and where diversity is celebrated. The festival welcomes an increasingly diverse community, including a growing number of attendees with disabilities, reinforcing Hadra’s commitment to accessibility.

For those seeking specific accommodations, a women-only camping area and a family zone are available to ensure a comfortable experience for all.

A hub for alternative experimentation, the Hadra Trance Festival is widely recognized for its expertise and commitment to environmental sustainability in the cultural sector. A true laboratory of imagination, Hadra encourages participants to experience this collective adventure where openness, kindness, respect, and connection with nature are at the core of every aspect of the festival.

OUR STORY

Hadra was founded in Grenoble in 2001 by a group of electronic music enthusiasts, particularly passionate about psychedelic trance.

Etymologically, “Hadra” refers to the collective trance practiced during religious ceremonies by Moroccan Sufi brotherhoods, especially the Issawas.

For over 20 years, Hadra has been developing its activities in multiple directions:

⦿ Organizing events of various sizes in Grenoble, across the Rhône-Alpes region, throughout France, and internationally in collaboration with other collectives.
⦿ Producing and supporting artists through its two labels: Hadra Records (founded in 2004) and Hadra Altervision Records (founded in 2017).
⦿ Sharing artistic and professional knowledge through cultural initiatives and training under the Hadra TranceMission program.
⦿ Creating decorations and scenography with our The Mad Studio team.
⦿ Exploring new sustainable and social innovations, integrating environmental and ethical values across all our activities.

Hadra Trance Festival is one of the few major international psytrance festivals to operate as a non-profit organization. All festival revenues are reinvested into the association’s projects.

With a strong collaborative spirit, Hadra’s members come together to experiment and create alternative artistic and organizational models, fostering a space where everyone can contribute to shaping the future of psychedelic culture.
